We all love a bit of hot weather but with the temperatures rising each year in the UK alone, its not just us who feel the effects of these heatwaves – our candles and wax melts do as well.
At Moonvale creations, we want you to enjoy your favourite fragrances safely while keeping your products in the best possible condition.
So here are our tips for caring for your candles and wax melts during hot weather.

Keep products out of direct sunlight

This one may be common knowledge but its always a good reminder to have. Sunlight can cause candles and wax melts to soften, fade in colour, and even affect the fragrance over time. To help maintain their quality, store them in a cool, shades area away from windows and conservatories.
Evene when displayed beautifully in your home, try to avoid placing them on sunny windowsills or shelves that receive direct sunlight throughout the day.

store in a cool place

Many of us have a good stock pile of waxy goodies that we love to hoard through-out the year. That being said storing them in a cool place is a must for keeping them in the best condition. Candles and wax melts are designed to melt when heated, so extreme temperatures cand cause them to soften or lose their shape.
During a heatwave, store them in the coolest room of your home if possible.

Avoid leaving products in:
– Conservatories. (These can become the hottest place in your house because of what they are made of. If you don’t want to sit in there because its too hot then neither does your waxy products)
– Greenhouses (your garden candles I’ll thank you)
– Cars. (If you have just brought some new goodies bring them inside as soon as your home because your car can get very hot in a small amount of time)
– Sheds. (Some of us didn’t have Greenhouses so we store our garden candles in here. In heatwaves its best to move them into a cooler place because you may find your candles have lost shape, faded in scent or even just melted to a point they have to be thrown away)

be extra careful when burning candles

Hot weather can affect more them just how your feeling, it can affect how your candles burn. If the room is already warm, the wax may melt more quickly than usual which will make the candles not lasts long and can also affect the fragrance levels.

For a safe and enjoyable burn:
– Keep candles away from open windows and draughts.
– Never leave a burning candle unattended.
– Place candles on a heat-resistant surface.
– Keep away from children and pets.
– Follow the care instructions provided with your candle at all times.

Check delivered orders Promptly

Most small businesses will wait if possible to post your order when the weather cools down enough to not affect your new products but sometimes this is just not possible. If you’ve recently received a delivery during a heatwave, its always a good idea to bring your parcel indoors as soon as possible. Packages left outside in direct sunlight or warm porches may soften during transit.
If you’re wax melts or candles feel slightly soft, don’t worry. Simply allow them t cool and return to room temperature before you use them. Putting them in the coolest point in your home is always the best option if this happens.

looking after wax melts

Wax melts can be particularly sensitive to heat. To keep them looking and smelling the best:
– Store them in their original packaging where possible.
– Keep them away from direct sunlight.
– Avoid storing them in very warm areas.
– Don’t mix fragrances unless they come in the same packaging. This may blend and create a fragrance you don’t want.

Don’t refrigerate your candles!

While it may seem like a good idea, and you have seen it on a candle tip reel on social media, storing your candles in the fridge can sometimes cause condensation and may affect the fragrance throw. A cool cupboard, drawer or shelf away from direct sunlight is usually the best option.

Enjoy your home fragrances safely

Heatwaves don’t mean you have to stop enjoying your favourite scents. A little extra care will help your candles and wax melts looking beautiful and performing at their best all summer long.
